Wolfgang Brilisauer

Service Manager/Technical Trainer

Meet Wolfgang Brilisauer, a highly skilled service manager and technical trainer at Waldner in Germany. He started at Waldner as an apprentice, and 30 years later, he is equipped with the expertise to service machines and oversee technical support. Read on to learn more about his work experience and passion for getting outside in nature.

Q: What specific duties does your job position entail?
I work in the DOSOMAT Service Department at Waldner’s headquarters in Wangen im Allgäu, Germany as a service manager and technical trainer. I handle technical support for Waldner packaging machines, service planning, after-sales contact and conduct technical trainings.

Q: Where did you work before your current position?
I’ve spent my entire life working with the Waldner team and DOSOMAT machines. I began at Waldner in 1994 as a mechanical apprentice, before switching to working in the workshop where I assembled and commissioned our filling machines. I later moved to the electronic department, which then brought me to Waldner’s service department today.

Q: What made you want to work at Waldner?
Waldner is a very sustainable company that relies on continuity, which I appreciate. Like me, most of my colleagues have spent their entire lives working at Waldner. We’re like family!

Q: What is the most exciting part of your job?
Working in the service department is a daily challenge, and while my experience is an added benefit, the job requires my undivided focus and attention. That being said, it’s very satisfying when I can help a customer solve a problem and production runs smoothly again afterward.

Q: What piece of advice would you give to someone looking to work in your industry?
Lots of experience and a solid education are everything. The best technicians who work alongside me have mechanical or electrical apprenticeships, worked for many years in the service department and then returned to school for higher education. Having these high experience levels offers many advantages compared to those who have only attended university to study our profession.

Q: Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures outside of work?
I love being in the countryside. It doesn't matter whether it's hiking, cycling or spending time in my garden; I love it all! I’m also located very close to the mountains and Germany’s largest lake, Lake Constance.

Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I dreamed of growing up to be like Indiana Jones or flying as an X-Wing pilot beside Luke Skywalker (from Star Wars) to spread some good in the Galaxy.

Q: What three items would you take with you to a deserted island?
I’ve always been a fan of survival-type TV shows; I’ve watched them forever! With my expertise, I’d bring unlimited water, a machete and flint.

Q: What do you hope to achieve in the future with your career?
I hope to remain up to date with the latest technological developments in the food and beverage industry. Eventually, I’d like to become the head of service or a project engineer at Waldner.
